What Each Option Is Actually Good At
Odoo: the fastest start if the template fits
Odoo's US pricing page lists Standard at US$11.20 per user per month and Custom at US$17.00, with US$8.95 and US$13.60 for the first twelve months. For 50 users that is $5,370 in year one and about $6,720 a year after, before any partner work.
Choose it when your processes are standard, your team is under about 15 people, and you can live with the template. The trap is the Custom plan: once you need Studio customisations or on-premise hosting, you are on the higher seat price and every customisation has to survive Odoo's yearly version upgrade.
ERPNext: free software, paid implementation
Frappe describes ERPNext as free and open source with no per-user pricing; you pay only for hosting. Frappe Cloud starts at US$5 a month for a shared site and US$40 a month for a server. Over five years that is about $2,400 of vendor cost for any number of users.
The catch is that everything else is implementation: configuring the modules, migrating data, building the reports and the tax formats your accountant signs off. Done well, ERPNext is an excellent base. Done by a partner who bills by the hour without a fixed scope, it costs what a custom build costs and you still do not own a codebase written for you. Dynamics 365 Business Central: the Microsoft-shop default
Microsoft's pricing page lists Essentials at US$80 and Premium at US$110 per user per month paid yearly, and Team Members at US$8. The Team Member licence is what makes the arithmetic work: 20 full users and 30 team members is $22,080 a year; all 50 on Essentials is $48,000.
Choose it when finance lives in Excel and Outlook, you already pay for Microsoft 365, and a Dynamics partner in your country can supply the localisation pack. Manufacturing needs Premium, and every partner implementation is quoted separately.
SAP Business One: the brand, at a price nobody publishes
SAP sells Business One through certified resellers and publishes no list price. ERP Research's 2026 estimate is US$95 to US$250 per user per month on cloud subscription, or US$3,500 to US$5,500 per user perpetual plus about 18% maintenance a year, with implementation at US$15,000 to US$150,000. At the low end that is $57,000 a year for 50 full users.
Choose it when a parent company, a bank covenant or a buyer's audit requires the SAP name, or when you are a subsidiary of an SAP S/4HANA group. For a standalone 50-person business it is the most expensive route by a wide margin, and limited-user licences only narrow the gap.
NetSuite: the mid-market suite with a base fee on top of the seats
Oracle publishes no NetSuite price list; every quote is negotiated. Two dated analyst estimates agree on the shape. BrokenRubik's guide (updated 24 August 2026) puts the base platform at US$999 to US$5,000 a month by edition and a full user at US$129 to US$199 a month, after a roughly 30% rise in 2025, with implementation for a 20-to-100-user company at US$50,000 to US$150,000. ERP Research quotes US$999 a month plus US$99 to US$199 per user, a 50-user rollout at US$120,000 to US$300,000 and more a year, and implementation of US$75,000 to US$250,000 for the mid-market. For 50 full users the licence alone is $89,388 to $179,400 a year, and both sources warn of a 5–15% increase at the first renewal unless a cap is negotiated into the contract.
Choose it when you run several legal entities or currencies and need consolidated books, when an investor or acquirer expects the Oracle name, or when the ecommerce and finance suite has to be one product. For a standalone 50-person business in Bangladesh or the Gulf it is the most expensive column after SAP, it carries no NBR or ZATCA format without partner work, and the base fee means the bill does not fall when you cut seats.
Custom ERP: paid once, owned, built around your rules

What Changes the Answer
- Fewer than 15 users. Odoo Standard at 10 users is about $6,720 over five years, under the $7,500 – $14,000 SME custom tier. Buy SaaS, keep your process standard, and revisit at 20 users.
- Most of your staff only need to see things. Business Central's US$8 Team Member licence and Odoo's portal users cut the seat bill sharply. Count who actually creates transactions.
- You need a country's tax format. Add the partner localisation module and its annual fee to every SaaS column, or accept manual duplicate entry. This is the line item that most often flips the decision to custom in Bangladesh and the Gulf.
- A parent company or auditor names a product. Then the comparison is over; budget the SAP, NetSuite or Dynamics implementation and negotiate the seat mix and, for NetSuite, a renewal cap.
- You have engineers in-house. ERPNext becomes the cheapest serious option, because the implementation cost moves to salaries you already pay.
