We build most mobile apps in React Native because one codebase covering iOS and Android genuinely cuts cost and timeline. But it is not always right, and an agency that recommends the same tool for every job is not advising you. Here is when we would tell you to go elsewhere.
Games, AR, heavy real-time video processing, or deep platform-specific hardware work belong in Swift or Kotlin. React Native can reach the native layer, but if most of your app *is* that layer, you are paying the bridge cost for nothing. We would tell you to build native — and we do that too, when it is genuinely the answer.
If your app is essentially a login and some screens of information, a fast mobile website does the same job without asking anyone to install anything. We will point that out before quoting, even though the website is the smaller invoice.
React Native shares most of your code, not all of it. iOS and Android still differ in permissions, notifications, payments, and store rules, and both still need real device testing. "Cross-platform" cuts cost meaningfully — it does not halve it, and anyone quoting as if it does will find the gap later, on your timeline.
A mid-range Android on mobile data is the honest test device for Bangladesh, not the newest iPhone on office wifi. Performance problems appear there first. We test on real low-end hardware because that is what your customers are actually holding.
React Native lets us ship JavaScript fixes without a full store review, so a bug found on Monday can be fixed on Monday rather than after a multi-day review. For a business app that changes often, this alone can justify the choice — but note it only covers JS changes, not native ones.
If you have or plan a web team, React Native means they can maintain the app too — same language, similar patterns. If you plan to hire native iOS and Android developers anyway, that advantage disappears. The right stack depends on your team a year from now, not just on the build.
