Plain-language definitions of the POS, ERP, and business software terms we use across the site — scoped to how they actually apply in the Bangladesh market.

POS (Point of Sale): The system a business uses to process a sale at checkout — ringing up items, taking payment, and updating inventory in real time. Ranges from a single-terminal setup for a small shop to a cloud-synced, multi-branch system.
ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning): Software that ties HR, inventory, accounting, and other operational functions into one system, replacing separate spreadsheets and disconnected tools. Custom ERP builds in Bangladesh typically start around 2,00,000 tk for an SME.
MFS (Mobile Financial Services): Bangladesh's mobile-wallet payment rails — bKash and Nagad are the two largest. Most POS and e-commerce systems built for the local market need direct MFS integration alongside cash and card.
RMG (Ready-Made Garments): Bangladesh's garments manufacturing and export sector. RMG ERPs need features generic ERPs lack: commercial letter-of-credit (LC) tracking, production-floor monitoring, and export documentation.
KOT (Kitchen Order Ticket): The ticket a restaurant POS sends from the point of order to the kitchen printer or screen, so kitchen staff see exactly what to prepare without a server relaying it verbally.
NBR (National Board of Revenue): Bangladesh's tax authority. Payroll and accounting software sold locally needs to calculate NBR income-tax brackets correctly — a common gap in HR platforms built for other markets.
SME (Small and Medium Enterprise): The size tier most custom ERP pricing in Bangladesh is scoped around — typically core HR, basic accounts, and inventory in one build, distinct from larger corporate or enterprise deployments.
AMC (Annual Maintenance Contract): A recurring fee, commonly 15–20% of the original project cost per year, covering server hosting, bug fixes, and security updates after a custom system is delivered.
ZKTeco: A brand of biometric (fingerprint/RFID) attendance device widely deployed in Bangladeshi offices and factories. HR software needs to pull attendance data directly from these devices to avoid manual CSV exports.
ESS (Employee Self-Service): A portal or mobile view letting employees request leave, check balances, and download payslips themselves, without going through the HR department for routine requests.
